Vote Obama

Hey what's up everybody! I'm Reid and unlike most of you, I actually exist. I graduated from high school earlier this year, and am now going to college, but I can't tell you where, because that could compromise the identity of who's actually typing this. I'm a pretty average kid for the most part. I love music, movies, and the occasional cigar. Some people call me a hippie, but I'm a patriot too. I have two tattoos on my back, one of an American flag, and one of a peace sign. I think that peace and love are what this country actually stands for. Bush has led this country straight to the crapper, and we need someone like Barack Obama to get us out fast! If you want to know why just ask and I'll go on for hours. As you might have guessed, I have very liberal views, both politically and socially, so hopefully that won't be a problem on a BYU blog. Well that's about it for now. Peace!

Have you ever talked to a soldier returned from the war? You cannot trust the media for info on the war or Bush. The media distorts the war in Iraq (though I'm not saying soldiers are not dying) and most of America assumes it to be true. I've been to a lecture given by a returned soldier who explained that what the media shows is only 5% of what is happening over there. The other 95% is giving food to the poor, building schools, health is administered (this soldier was a general surgeon), etc. This fact, that the media distorts the situation in Iraq, has been backed by every soldier I've talked to.
Just as a disclaimer, I don't necessarily believe that democracy will work out in Iraq or the Middle East. I just believe that this "war" is doing more good than everyone believes.

I'll admit that the media leaves a lot out, but if the other 95% was really holding hands and singing Kumbaia as you claim, then all of our soldiers probably would have come home around that time four and a half years ago when Bush stood under the banner that read "Mission Accomplished." And don't try to guilt me by saying that you know soldiers. I find it ironic that most of your fellow republicans in congress have the nerve to attach "Support Our Troops" magnets to their massive SUVs and then turn around and shoot down the measure to give our troups the same amount of time home as they were forced to spend overseas. One more thing: you admitted that soldiers really are dying. So could you please explain to me why you put the word "war" in quotes?

First off, I say "war" because I view it being on a larger scale…that's all. It still is a war, I just don't put it on the same level as the Civil War or any of the World Wars. As far as Congressmen shooting down a bill to give more time to overseas soldiers, I don't really agree with that either. In truth, I pretty neutral about politics. I only see one reason why soldiers can't come home: if we pull out now, the country will fall into disorganization and revert back to what it used to be under Hussein. However, I don't believe Democracy will work there; it's against the peoples' nature. They have had dictatorship and other forms of strong central government for centuries. Even though I believe all this, I still think Bush is doing his best (Congressmen are a different story).

You say you are neutral on politics, but I seem to remember you saying that you are "pro war," whatever that means. So Bush is doing his best but Congressmen are a different story? In case you didn't know, they were backing Bush when they voted against that measure. He didn't want it to pass any more than they did. Anyway, maybe Bush is doing his best, but the fact remains that he's a moron. You don't have to remind me that Hussein was a very bad man, but because of Bush's war, more people are dying in Iraq than when Hussein was in power. You say that if we leave now Iraq will be thrown into disorder, but that's already happened. I see a story of a car bombing every time I open a news paper these days. Even if only "5%" is being reported, that 5% is still happening.

Relax, Reid. I said I’m “pretty neutral on politics”. I only say pro-war because I think it’s probably the lesser of two evils. I am Democrat on many issues; realize that. If Obama were to get elected as President, I would be fine with that. Obama seems to be a good person and free from the twisted pull of politics. As long as Clinton doesn’t get voted in, I'll be satisfied. I feel like you’re trying to make an argument when there really isn’t one. However, I don’t believe Bush is a moron; how would he climb the political ladder otherwise? As far as Congressmen go, I don’t trust them. It seems few are straightforward, good men. They may have backed Bush, but that doesn’t mean I support them. See where I'm coming from?

Hey, my bad Kali, I just get a little crazy sometimes when I talk about this stuff. I just don't see how anyone could still be supporting Bush, but I think you seem like a pretty cool rabbit, and we probably got off on the wrong foot. I say we give this a rest for now since it will probably come up again later. If I ever seem like a jerk it's just because I'm very passionate about debating on anything. I actually think it's pretty cool that you were willing to talk too me about this. Ralph, whatever you do, don't listen to the leprecon.

Nah, it's just as much my fault. Not surprisingly, I love to debate too. I had a debate last over a 3 year span. It was pretty much awesome. You have a many good ideas...enough to sway me to be more Democrat. If (or when) this comes up again, we'll annihilate everyone else; that'll be fun, neh?
